A bright red ball of yarn bounced down the hall before rolling to a stop on the carpet. Million, sitting against the wall with her legs crossed, turned her eyes to the ball with a faint whirr. Then she turned her head the other way, to Lily’s face leaning out of the bedroom.
“I only look like a cat, you know,” Million said.
“I know,” Lily said, “I’m running a test.”
Million furrowed her brow. “What test?”
“For a hypothesis.”
“No,” Lily said, “It might taint the data.”
Million sighed, exasperated. She didn’t have to, of course, since she was a robot—specifically a high-end general purpose ani-droid, shaped like an orange bipedal housecat. Although her outer covering mimicked soft orange fur, and her ears tapered to a point, and her electronic eyes narrowed with vertical slits, it was all merely an illusion for the enjoyment of humans.
She was not even that

I remember that it was late at night. Three in the morning, I think. The rest of my family had gone to sleep, just like the rest of my neighbourhood. I had decided to pull an all-nighter roleplay session with my friends on Deviantart. It came to a point which I had no messages at all, with the inbox icon at the top of my monitor labelled '0', even when I was constantly refreshing the page . I let out a long sigh. It had been at least the tenth time I had refreshed the tab, and my notifications were as barren as Death Valley in California. Having a lack of things to reply to, which usually kept me awake, I felt my head slump down my wrist and onto my desk. With exhausted, half-closed eyes, I decided that I would click 'refresh' one last time, and if nothing came up, I would go to sleep for the night.
Clip ClopThe train sleepily pulls into the train station at 10.30pm. I close my book and slide it into my bag before standing up and walking towards the train doors. I stifle a yawn as I step onto the platform and make my way to the station’s exit. “I need to stop putting in so much overtime”, I think to myself. I can barely stand up I feel so tired. The station is deserted except for one or two other commuters waiting on the various train platforms.Clip Clop20 hours ago in Short Stories More Like This
As I reach the exit and begin my walk down the main road, I coerce my earphones into my ears and select ‘shuffle’ on my ipod. ‘The Sound of Silence’ by Simon and Garfunkel begins to play. The only sounds I can hear outside of my earphones are the noises of impatient traffic, my shoes hitting the pavement and the rhythmic movement of my crisp suit swishing as I walk.
The autumnal air is unpleasant against the nakedness of my face and brings a chill to my spine. I skip the song on my ipod, in need of a song m

"Ummmm, why is everything in Alex's bedroom outside and against her door?"
"She's being paranoid again." Hana said channel surfing.
"She gets like this every Halloween." Natalie noted sitting at the table reading cheerleading magazines. "But this year we scored! She paid us both $100 just to take all her stuff out and prop it against the doorway, so there is no way anything could get to her door."
"It's sad, but she is in her empty room huddled against the corner holding holy water and a cross." Hana added. “Don’t ask why it’s not all stacked on the inside.”
"Look, I know things got weird last Halloween, but that doesn't mean

"shut up, Dave."
"Man, we shouldn't have done that, my mum'll freak when she finds out what we did!"
"Dave will you shut the hell up! No ones going to find out, there's no evidence."
"what do you mean, no evidence, there's a huge bowl of punch we dumped a buttload of LSD into!"
Shaun pointed to the huge glass punch bowl, his freddy Krueger glove serving to underscore the gesture.
"What... Where's it gone?"
The werewolf follows his friends knife fingered hand as it traces the muddy footprints leading from the punch bowl, passed the pumpkin carving, into the Halloween fun time corn maze.
"Oh shit." They both whisper.
Little Billy was lost.
He had taken a wrong turning somewhere, he knew it, but in his haste he'd got himself all turned around. The problem with corn mazes was that once you were in them, everything looked the same.
It didn't help that he could see almost nothing through his ghost costume. He'd cut the eye holes in the wrong place.

Chapter: 2 Mother Knows Best
I sat on the edge of the bed as Mother fixed a washcloth. "I will just be a moment, Hans.", she assured as I swayed my legs back and forth. She sat beside me and held my face still. "Now this may sting, but I need you to be brave for me. Alright?"
"Alright.", I nodded, immediately wincing as she placed the cloth against my wound.
"Momma's almost done...There, that's all." She smiled down at me, tilting my chin up so I could gaze back at her. "Feel better?"
"I'm starting to. Thank you, Mother."
She smirked and scooted in, wrapping her arm around me. "Now, tell me what happened."
I took a deep breath and began, "Well, Liam didn't like the fact that I punched him and-"
"Hans...why did you hit your brother?"
"Because I had something to prove to the others."

Chapter: 1 Whiteout
It's crazy how fast your entire life can flash before your eyes. Years of pain become intense moments, each darting throughout your mind like a slow-working poison. Amidst it all, you can't help but ask yourself, "Was it worth it?....What did I contribute?...Am I a hero....or just another power-hungry fool trying to make his way in the world?"
"I would never shut you out..."
"You can't marry a man you've just met."
"You can if it's true love!"
"Never shut you out..."
"I leave Prince Hans in charge."
"Queen Elsa! Don't be the monster they fear you are!"
"You have to tell them to let me go!"

Jeff slinked up the stairs to his victim’s room, with a grace and dexterity which were such that he practically flowed from step to step. At last he faced their flimsy pine door, the only object serving as a barrier between blissful slumber and a real-life slasher film. He stopped to titter softly in the moonlight that was pouring through an open bay window, and traced his tongue along the side of his knife in an almost sexual gesture. At last he figured he had fulfilled his quotient of melodrama and kicked the door open clean off its hinges, displaying a freakishly abnormal strength that should have been impossible in a malnourished and sleep-deprived teenage boy. Jeff stared into the room beyond with his piercing, unblinking eyes. He had murdered thousands of people, this one would be no different.
Except they had a shotgun. And for some reason the young girl was smiling.
“Hello, Jeffy-kun” she sai
Cardverse!England x Reader - Memory (1/?)The sound of cracking snow under your feet was all that could be heard among the lifeless stonewalls that surrounded you. It was mixing with the echo of your steps returning from the vast corridors that connected main hall with the other abandoned parts of the once magnificent palace. Now it was nothing more than a pile of ruble, still breathtaking in some places, in other just a ruins of a long forgotten kingdom. The stones of the walls were black and cold, but sometimes you could see on them a scrap of a navy tapestry embroidered with a silver thread. Long ago there were the colours of this country. Coulours of winter that was enslaved by the rulers of spade. Now the winter has ruled over it’s remnants. Why did it always have to be snakes?
Arizona James, the words foremost culinary archeologist, searched the bottom of the brown paper bag, but all she brought up was a fist full of gummy snakes.
"This is the last time I let that idiot buy the candy! I hate snakes!"
The idiot in wuestion was Davis, her dogsbody/comedic foil, who she'd left outside guarding the jeep. She ate the snakes anyway, raiding tombs (a wholly different enterprise to tomb raiding, for reasons of copyright) was hungry work, and this one was a doozy.
Buried a mile beneath the shifting desert sands, Arizona was not on the trail of what she believed was the find of the century: the tomb of Ackmahbelleh. The great queen of her era, Ackmahbelleh was nevertheless curiously absent from the vast majority of literature and records dealing with the time period of her rule. She had ascended the throne as ruler thousands of years ago into a rich and prosperous empire which she set about expanding even further. All of a

Igor pricked up his ears. Igor had had many pairs in his lifetime, but these were a definite favourite. They could hear a twig snap underfoot from half a haunted Forest away, which was usually quite useful as he had a habit of being chased by torch wielding mobs.
He needn't have put on his best ears for this... Display. He had heard the mistress coming from a mile away, every step she took sending a gurgling, sloshing sound echoing through the crafty, cobweb cluttered chambers of the ancient draughty castle.
The double doors creaked open on hinges bearing centuries of rust in order to get the right foreboding note to them, and in strode the mistress.
Mercia Van Carrow.
She was evil. There was no two ways about it. She had become a vampire centuries before in a godless ritual and had continued to life up to the sheer malevolent horror of that night ever since.
She'd also always been a

Zack sighed as he laid down to sleep for the night. He could feel his son and daughter moving around and kicking at his ribs or at each other. They still hadn’t settled on a name. Nothing seemed right. So they decided to wait til they saw the babies to name them. He laid on his side and turned out the light. He snuggled into his pillows content. He giggled when Brian scooted over and kissed his neck as he wrapped his arms around him. “Someone is feisty tonight.” Brian said into Zack’s shoulder.
Zack rolled onto his back then looked up at his lover. “Really now? Who would that be? The mouse in your pocket?” Brian smirked and kissed him on the lips. “Oh! It’s you! I see. Maybe we can do something about this?” He shifted so he was sitting up a bit. “Now what to do about this feistiness?” He smiled kissing him again.
Brian straddled him and smiled. “Well we could have hot, wild sex that makes the twins think they are i
Echoes The air of the Alterworld was cool and moist. Hettie had to remind herself that it wasn’t nighttime. That this was simply the nature of the place. That the sun was never going to rise, though just at that moment a faint glow filtered through the misty air at the crest of a pathetic hill. A bulging creature with spindly legs, body faintly luminescent, paused to point its boneless head towards the heat and light of the paraffin stove. Hettie slowly reached for her revolver.Echoes21 hours ago in Short Stories More Like This
“It’s not dangerous.” Jeanne stabbed a fork into her can of stew, not bothering to look up. “Not valuable, either.”
The creature took a step closer, a pair of soft, quivering apertures flaring where its eyes should have been. Hettie could hear it breathing, a regular one-two hiss as the vents on its flank flapped open, drew closed.
“Are you sure?”

Vanessa started, a guilty flush spreading along her cheeks. She hadn’t meant for anyone to hear that, least of all Nick. Her best friend had a supernatural gift for picking out the exact right things to embarrass her.
“N-no.” Was the best she had to offer. Her cheeks reddened further as she realized the futility of her lie. “Yes.” She sighed the last part, giving up on any hope of a successful façade. On the bright side, he was only bugging her about that, and not on her choice of costume: a sexy dog-girl outfit that her sister had bought her. She’d switched off the costume’s ears and tail almost immediately, disliking how they twitched in time with her emotions.
For a moment, the only sound was the constant beat of the music, an upbeat pop song by some foreign artist. Vanessa stared idly at the dance floor, watching someone in a cheaply 3D-printed costume t
A Gift For Monica Serena peered at the doll suspiciously as Esme pulled it out to examine it further. She instantly didn’t like the look of it. She couldn’t explain why. It had a pale face with rosy cheeks, rouged lips and blue eyes made of glass. Long curly brown hair tumbled out from the white bonnet on her head, and the white and blue dress she wore made her resemble some kind of milkmaid. “Are you sure Monica will like it?”A Gift For Monica11 hours ago in Short Stories More Like This
“Course she will. She’s really into these old fashioned dolls at the moment!” Esme assured as she rifled through her purse for some loose change. “How much for it?” she asked the elderly man behind the stall.
“She can be yours for fifteen pounds my dear,” came his answer.
“Wow, bargain!” Esme remarked as she handed over the exact amount of coinage. “May I ask why you’re selling her, she’s gorgeous!”

Twin of Katy: Chapter 2
Mark woke up after a long, long sleep. The bed he woke up in was unfamiliar, in fact, the whole room was not his! He jumped out of bed and then it him. Looking down, he realised that the shirt he was wearing, contained to giant boobs. Black hair fell down in front of his eyes and he remembered: He was Katy Perry- No wait, that's not true, he was a twin of her. „Damn, it was not just a stupid nightmare...Now where the hell am I?“ He looked around the room and found it to be quite nice. It wasn't over the top girly or anything, although you could still see that it was a girls room with all the clothes. He stepped over to a giant window that filled out the whole wall and gazed at the view. He was in Hollywood, in a mansion, in Katy Perrys mansion...as Katy. He would be more than happy about any of those things, except for the last one.
Apparently, he made quite the noise though and without him noticing Katys agent entered the room “Ah, great! You'
Freaky Friday NightRachel grinned as she finally finished unpacking her things in her new Steel City apartment. She thought about how this would be a new start for her and her alter ego of Shoukan. Another couple of weeks and she would have Jade and Hizuka as neighbours and she would be working with her FBI handler and boyfriend to run their cover company Gemstone Security Services. Hizuka would be helping them in between the Martial Arts school Jade and their Sensei was setting up. Rachel grinned at that, Jade’s idea was not without merit she guess but teaching self-defence would not stop all crimes.Freaky Friday Night17 hours ago in Short Stories More Like This
