over water, away
Sailing the wind
To the end of day
High fidelity, hearken
A weather eye
When autumn skies
Clouds scatter and flee
Before taking flight
Between here and away
The moment stretching
The pause between breaths
The calm that comes before the storm...
Ocean already tugs at the lifelines.
A whisper of cooler Atlantean air
The storm comes
From the breath of susurration
To the thundering wave's drums
Inexorably now, it comes.
Caught up by horizon storms
The shore beneath you disappears
The sea provides fair warning.
And from the savage night —
Full-throated furies howl and rage —
High and dry by morning.
Cast up by the sea
Strange creatures and mysteries
Leave beachcombers to wonder
But what the sea provides
The storm-surge yie

I do not bow, I do not break
I am coldness, I am hunger
No one is older, no one is younger
My soul is pure yet deep as the lake
Into which Bedivere returned the magic blade.
If you find me hiding in the reed
Do not be frightened by my blue-grey face
Men who come wish to cover me in dresses
But I’m fine, my dignity saved by my black tresses
Women may leave an offering of delicate lace
Or gold coins, as if my hunger is one of greed.
But don’t come too close to the water brink
I am the guardian of all those who sleep
Eternally in seas dark and rivers wild
I embrace every spurned lover and unwanted child
And drag them down, for my sisters to keep
Close to their hearts, their blood to drink.

lie down and feel the heat against
your back and the ants that begin
to crawl through your dry hair
and read the sky
spread out your arms on the footpath and
into the roiling black heavens
just wait there, wait until they
open upon you
blotting circles pattern around you until the sky and the path are painted the same
but for a smiling rain angel where you lie
sheltering beneath you
and that strong, heady scent of petrichor that surrounds you
everything becomes wet
carbon, concrete, chlorophyll
the tickling ants run for shelter and you
let this all-consuming deluge wash you away
forget the nuances of a crowded, bustling life
money, jobs, responsibilities
for just a few minutes while the warmth fades
you don't need to be afraid
you are a child of the earth
and free your mind
when you are done and drenched

Morning AirListen to the silent coo of dovesMorning Air3 days ago in Free Verse More Like This
In the early morning
As fresh air seeps in through your window
Having washed the evening's troubles away
Acknowledge the feeling of love
Not burning or seething
But cool and calm and graceful
As I wait for tainted day
Listen to rustling leaves above
Leaving you adoring
Interrupted by car alarms
In the distance far away
Listen to the coo of doves
Before you have to wake up
Under the Banks of the Old Oak Tree Under the Banks of the Old Oak TreeUnder the Banks of the Old Oak Tree3 days ago in Free Verse More Like This
There was a place that I went to
when I was young.
I sat there to think,
and contemplate life's greatest puzzles.
It was a place so dear to me.
I would cut through
the dirt roads to find it;
I'd zigzag through
the surrounding trees.
When I would get to it,
I would always take a moment
to look up and admire
the height and strength with which
it stood before me.
When I was done,
I would climb it's thick branches,
sitting in the middle
just high enough to see the sunlight.
I'd relax against
the rough trunk,
stretching out my
tired, tiny legs.
Pulling out my pad and pen,
I'd open up the pages
to a world I never realized,
until later on,
was my escape and safehaven.
I learned here the
great art of philosophy.
That was my Hagia Sophia,
my secret place.
I'd go when life
was just too heavy to bear.
I'd go when I felt weighed down
by the things of today's life.
No one knew where I went.
I never did tell.
I wanted not disturbance,
and tag-a-long shadow

That leap startled to the slushy sand of the sea
From the yellow glow of a lighted match
And its sharp scratch,
Its voice warm in its cove.
'Cross the sun lands and the black beating hearts
Beneath the moon that glows blue with the skies
And each pane pushing low
And each farm and its fields
Till three, two, one, sleep, tap, a quench,
Quick prow to the sea, loud and large as his father's voice.
He then throws, his spurt littler than half-speed,
The fiery ringlets of the sea!
An Entirely Different SpaceA vast ocean before my eyes.An Entirely Different Space3 days ago in Free Verse More Like This
And I splash into a whole different world.
Sunlight seeping through the gentle waves.
So many shades of blue before my eyes.
I dive down deeper.
Silver coins dance and are happy to see my presence.
But they swim away from loud clicks and whistles.
Deeper and deeper I go.
The bright rainbow of blue grows more murky,
More frightening. I'm frightened.
I don't see them,
but I sense the presence of something greater.
A large presence staring me down
Behind the black silk curtain.
I'm in the spotlight,
Being judged if I'm a friend
Or another tasty meal.
A sudden noise jolts me awake.
"Beep, beep, beep"
My oxygen is running low.
The eyes I felt are no longer there.
I slowly ascend back to where I belong.
And spin tales of my trip to space.

Swallows fluttering through the grove
Drops of dew glittering on the grass
As the sun shines down brightly
On the pines' pewter needles
Above the brink of the brake
A lone wild lily stands still
Silent as the doe walks past
And quivers at the touch
Of the morning moth
Who lands on the leaf to rest
The sun travels across the sky
And dusk draws over the wood
The first stars prick the dark
As twilight falls on the land
And the shadows fade to black

Heat is a thiefThere is no such thing as cold, only heat.Heat is a thief22 hours ago in Free Verse More Like This
Feel it slip away from your head to your feet.
Heat is like a thief that can't be caught.
And it makes you feel completely distraught.
To stop this thief there are things you can do.
Such as warming yourself by peeing in a wetsuit.
You hat to watch as heat goes.
But science says it has to flow.
Heat is a thief that robs you blind.
So a new heat source you'll need to find.
Heat can transfer from thing to thing.
But touch it too long ad you'll start to sing.
There is no such thing as cold, only heat.
Feel it slip away from your head to your feet.

The Wolf's songA wolf prowls the night,The Wolf's song1 day ago in Free Verse More Like This
And fills it with a beautiful song,
It might fill you with fright,
But, it won't be long,
The song is a call,
For wolves around to know that he is not far,
And before the night falls,
And the last of the twinkling stars,
It will come to a stop,
The song will be along,
But, it will be heard everywhere nonstop,
For it is The Wolf's song

Balancing WolfThere he sits, assuming a role that no other can take.Balancing Wolf2 days ago in Free Verse More Like This
His watchful eye brings peace and balance to the place that he calls his home.
Parting his jaws, he lets loose what is his battle cry, his song of mourning, his song of joy.
The howl that makes nature succumb to his leadership.
He is peacemaker of his domain, he is the balancing wolf.
Because of him, the mountain stands strong, raising the branches of every tree to rejoice in the sweet melody of his call.
Because of him, the deer that rampage and tear at the land are kept at bay.
He is the warrior that defends his home, he is the balancing wolf.
But the land can no longer rejoice in his call. His melody is slowly replaced by gunshot that echoes through the towering peaks of the mountains.
He is the plague that no man trusts, he is a savage beast.
Now, with only a memory remaining of the mountain’s guard, the balance is destroyed. The deer tear at the land with vigor, destroying all that the wolf had protected.

glorious rain, I love you so,
with your thunder and lightning,
I hope you know.
You're wet and you're pretty
you bring out the best in me,
I dance around in you,
as I am filled with glee.
But now that you've left,
I'm left with this drudgery,
'cause you often leave behind destruction.
Rain, oh glorious rain,
I love you so,
I just wish you'd always stay,
even if you have somewhere else to go.

Shining in the darkest
Hear a soft howl,
Then a soft growl
Carrying their feet,
As light as wind
They cross the creek,
With no din, in search of their friend.
For one who was lost,
Must be found
None to be left behind,
All to be bound
They snarl and carry on,
Until the lost is drawn
This is the way of the pack
Loyal, Unforgiving, Brave
