Christmas in HeavenLights strung across the ceiling; fairies in the night.Christmas in Heaven4 years ago in Literature More Like This
I could smell the scent of childhood; just out of reach.
Sugar cookies and gingerbread houses.
Pine, green, red, lights, flashing, happyness.
Every memory of being a child.
I swear that living room is burned into my mind; a reminder.
The Christmas tree was covered in love.
Every year I got new ornaments and they adorned the tree, for all to see.
That sick knot in your belly when you wake up in the morning,
Knowing Santa has come.
Oh what I'd give to thank you for what you've done.
The big fluffy chair placed so neatly, kiddy-cornered in the room.
The tree dripping the rain of pine needles and flashing the color of smiles.
I'd like to say I remember sitting in your lap those mornings
opening all of my gifts.
I wont though, because I simply can not.
I like to pretend though,
pretend I can see your smile.
Frost spreading across the wide glass windows,
The cold leaking through the window panes.
Snow falling against snowmen outside
The Perfect HouseThe first time Ryan enters a house that is not his parents' (or one of his relatives'), he is far from impressed. The house is not bare, Ryan knows, but there is just something about it that he does not like. It is cold, with all sharp angles and straight lines, and he resolutely does not like it. Ryan is nothing if not the polite gentleman that his mother painstakingly brought up, however, and he shakes the owner's hand politely, exchanges pleasantries, eyes never straying from the business that brought him here in the first place. The Perfect House4 years ago in Literature More Like This
When he leaves, he does not look back, and promptly forgets that the house once knew his presence.
'Drew,' Drew shouts at Ryan when he first greets him, thrusting a grubby hand in his direction. Ryan deeply grimaces insides, but smiles an obliged smile and grasps Drew's hand for the shortest time possible before letting go.
'You're my new roommate, right?,' Drew asks, chewing something obscenely loudly in his mouth. Ryan cocks an eyebrow, because between hi
My Only SunshineThe chair creaked and groaned as if crying out for an unrequited answer. Anna ceased her relentless rocking, unaware of how long she had actually been sitting there. A slight memory of a crackling fire burned through her mind as the frigid cold took hold of her immediate thought. "The fire " She murmured to herself, "It's gone out."My Only Sunshine4 years ago in Literature More Like This
As if expecting a reaction from the nearby furniture, she paused a moment, contemplating the last few minutes of intense thought that had made her let the flames die. Excusing her momentary lapse, she managed to bundle up the fabric of her dress and make her way towards the last bits of wood that would keep her warm this Christmas Eve. Placing her small frail hands on the logs of oak sitting next to the fireplace, she took in the fresh smell - one that had once enveloped her handmade home with fragrance and constant comfort. It had faded, along with the fire.
Finishing her chore, Anna gathered up the bottom of her dress, and sighed with the creaking of

Our living room was transformed, morphed into a holiday wonderland, starting right at the door. I didn't even know it as our own room. From left to right and from top to bottom the space was filled with Christmas cheer, from the mistletoe dangling above us on the door and the candy cane "velvet" rope in front of us, to the giant candy cane coat rack, and the roaring fireplace with roasting chestnuts overhead. Wonderful scenes upon my eyes were the lit-up reindeer pulling Santa's slay and the giant mechanical snowmen wishing us a holly jolly holiday. I looked to my right and saw even more, more than I even knew we could have. There were dancing Santas, an illuminating Rudolph, red and green tinsel lining the walls around the entire room, mobile train sets, Christmas scented candles, and fruitcakes everywhere! Not to even mention the furniture itself! Mahogany chairs, and beautiful chestnut tables with cinnamon candles, flaunting their scent all across the room. A beautiful te

As I slogged into the house after
braving a ravenous winter storm,
the only thing I expected was to dry off
and warm up by the fire,
and proceed to put myself to bed.
What I did find was so much more.
As I walked into the family room,
my breath stuck in my throat.
Everything was beautiful
My parents must have just
come home from the tree farm,
because the fresh scent
of an evergreen pine
wafted throught the room
like the smell of homemade
It was pleasantly decorated
with some cheerful lights
and family ornaments.
A few expertly wrapped
presents lay under the tree,
and I could harly resist
the temptation to bend down
and check which one's were
As I moved on, I stopped
in front of the fireplace, and
was mesmerized by the dancing
flames, the smoke drifting
lazily up the chimney.
The word implanted itself
in the front of my brain.
What a perfect word to
describe what i was
I glanced up from the fireplace
and noted how carefully pl
