Lo! Now my tasks are almost done;
Gone in the wind, one by one.
Leaving a peaceful, quiet space behind.
I lie at rest beneath a setting sun,
In the arms of the one I love.
The Gate to Ur appears in my mind;
But 't is neither of plaster nor of stone.
It stands between two arches spreading wide..
[In truth, her two arms outstretched]
Who comes to Ur must vow eternal Love.
For her ruler is a woman born.
War and death bring grief to her tender heart;
So, if ye cannot promise eternal love,
'T is best that ye turn round and depart.
I have stayed, because I vowed and I kept my vow.
