The opening was barely an inch wide; I’d definitely need more space to fit through, especially with my wings. I gripped one jagged edge, hauling back on it with all my might.
To my great surprise, the metal actually bent slightly. Some small, orange flakes of rust fell away from the surface. I hadn’t really expanded my window of escape, but it was a start. If I could just push the metal edges outward enough, I’d be able to squeeze myself out. Then, I could fly away into the forest and hopefully never see a human ever again.
