The DoveThe DoveThe Dove2 years ago in Free Verse
This is my dove
Look at how white it is
Very pure, downy feathers
Illuminating in the sun.
She's beautiful, is she?
I can't imagine what would happen
What it would bring if I'd lose her
Something so sacred to me.
I just can't give her to anyone
And I don't know how she lived so long
They don't usually live this much
Maybe I take good care of her.
Most people hardy care for them
But I've had mine since childhood
And I'd be brokenhearted if I'd lose her
Because Father gave her to me.
It's a beautiful gift
And He said that if I wait
She'll be more beautiful
And I'll be as beautiful as her.
So I keep His promise
And save her with care
And keep her clean and healthy
Because I would like to be like a dove.
Others would give away their doves
Keep it as a child and grow careless
As they grow and give them away
Turning them into pigeons.
But I don't want her to be a pigeon
I don't want lose her
Knowing He gave her to me
And I cherish her.
And I remember he told me,
"If you love someday
