Description
When I recently posted my painting of Thoth a number of folks commented about how they'd like to see Sobek. While I haven't done a full painting of him yet, I do have this simplier peice from a few years back. Sobek is such an interesting God and is a perfect example of the duality of many Egyptian deities. A mix of both postive and negative; protector and destroyer. While in Egypt last year I got to visit the amazing temple devoted to him at Khom Ombu (sp?). It's one of the best preserved cult temples as it spent a goodly amount of it's time partly buried in Nile silt and mud, preserving it. Simply amazing. When I eventually do get to paint him, I'll be using that as a background. Meanwhile this will have to do. Ink and white acrylic on grey paper. 11x14.
