Metal FatigueThe scientists were standing round the font with the vicar, cooing over the new addition to the family.
The godparents, Gold and Silver, watched from the front pew.
Gold sighed. “I wonder what they’re going to call this one.”
“Something sensible, I hope,” said Silver.
Gold nodded. “Yes—the things they come up with nowadays! Whatever happened to those lovely old fashioned names?”
Silver stared into the distance. “‘Iron’, ‘Bismuth’, “Palladium’...”
“Gorgeous names, all of them.” Gold flicked through the hymnal. He looked up again. “And then there’s Copper and Tin—they called their child Bronze. Nice straightforward name—no messing about.”
“Did you hear Copper got divorced?” said Silver.
“No,” said Gold. “What happened?”
“Apparently he had a baby with Zinc too. They’re calling it Brass.”
So You Want to Crochet AmigurumiArtisan Crafts Week
Creating something with your own hands, watching the fruits of your labor blossom... The idea of crafting something has always appealed to me. I figured I could draw - but quickly discovered that took some talent I don't possess (at least, as of yet). The DeviantArt community proved a fountain of inspiration and I quickly stumbled upon a craft that captured my attention: crocheted amigurumi.
That was my first thought, too. According to Craftsy it means a "knit/crocheted stuffed toy". That's right, it's either a knitted - resulting in a more stretchy product - OR a crocheted toy - the yarn being of a denser, thicker fabric. Amigurumi can be made into pretty much anything: animals, people or inanimate objects.
What do you need?
TapestryThe morning is a tapestry...
tripping over last night's grace,
I watch you weave your skin
and shake out your hair -
soft teal and jonquil
shadowing your cheek
as the curtains part between your hands.
Threads tangle as you turn,
dawn is a gentle lover,
and the tumble of birds
plaiting their soft notes
lingers on the pillows
where your smile is my undoing.
