Truly, there was no sensation greater than flight! No feeling was as magnificent, as powerful, as all consuming!
He dove, swooped, and twirled in a fantastic display of agility and skill. His heart was pounding, the darkness of his eyes lit with a passionate flame. Breathing in deeply, he rose sharply upward through the clouds, and let loose a cry of pure exhilaration before bending backward in a dive that left white streams of air skipping over he tips of his wings.
The heat of the sun on his back added to his fervor. He rolled, pulling up mere feet away from the sharp tops of the trees.
Time blurred together, minutes and hours meaningless until finally, Crow returned to his roost. His body was slathered with sweat, down and feathers matted together, but he did not care. Perched upon a high branch, he trembled with adrenaline, his pulse throbbing, still lost inside the primal joy his journey to the open skies had given him.

He knelt upon the heat washed stone, his eyes closed, his breathing even. The fantastic clouds and brilliant blues of the sky were utterly lost upon Crow, who, in repose, seemed content, almost blissful.

Two days had passed since his exodus from the peaks. Two days since his battle with Wind. Two days
that felt like an eternity. He had crawled up from underneath the oak to face a shimmering morning of mist, dew, and birdsong. But nature's beauty had held him in no spell bound trance as he faced a crippling weakness.
His first attempt at flight ended in disaster. Time and time again he strained to reach the skies, and fought to stay there. And time and time again, his body failed him. His sides and back burned with pain. His wings shook spasmodically and would not support his weight.

Darkness. Blackness. Impenetrable, yet familiar. This element he had lived with his entire life. This was all he knew, all he had felt. From beginning to end, there was always darkness.
