He could feel it. He could almost sense the fact that this was, in fact, a very, very bad idea.
First off, it was dark. Of course, finding demons seemed to be easiest in the dark. They apparently liked to come out at night rather than during the day. Something about the fear factor? Whatever. But fighting in a dark, cramped room? Not as fun. Or safe. But safety was an entirely different story.
And actually, scratch that ‘not as fun’ thing. It wasn’t fun to begin with.

I sighed, running my free hand through my blond hair and glancing down at the cut Jade was tending to. I pressed my lips together in silent frustration and stared in the opposite direction.
“It’s dangerous. And you know not to go out alone.” I glanced up, watching Jade. The dark-haired girl looked intently down at her work, wrapping a bandage gently around my arm. Her eyebrows were furrowed in concentration. A small smile tugged up the corners of my mouth.
“You know…we were really worried about you. All of us. You just left.” Jade looked up and grinned brightly. “Even Karkat was worried.”
I rolled my eyes as this but returned the smile. “I’m sure he was,” I said, sarcasm laced in my words. I paused. Everyone was…worried? “How’d John cope?”
